Raw Shea Butter = More Benefits
When you say Raw Shea Butter you are referring to Shea butter that has not been
refined. To refine Shea Butter you must use chemicals. Raw means no processing and no chemicals have been
added.
Refinement
To refine Raw Shea Butter Sodium Hydroxide is added to the Butter. Sodium Hydroxide is caustic.
Refining removes beneficial proteins and the phospholipids.
Phospholipids act as a vehicle for the oils contained in the butter. This “vehicle”
brings the oils to the skin or hair in a manner in which the body can use it. It allows water to bond with
the oils.
Understand that when chemicals are used, some of the chemicals remain in the
product.
Bleach
To bleach Shea Butter the butter is heated and passed through an acid treated filter.
This process removes some of the the aroma but will also remove beneficial minerals.
Proper extraction methods.
To extract Raw Shea Butter from the nut of the Shea tree you can use a couple of
methods.
Traditional
The traditional method actually begins with prayer. Thanks are given for the tree being
provided for our use.
Then the fruit is picked from the Shea tree. The nuts within the fruit are cracked and dried.
After drying the nut is pounded and a butter of sorts forms.
This pounded nut is boiled in water for several hours. During which the raw Shea Butter
rises to the surface. It is then gathered and allowed to cool.
The Press
In this procedure a mechanical process is used to crush and grind the nuts. The crushed nut is
squeezed to remove the Raw Shea Butter.
This method is more modern and will produce more unrefined Shea Butter in less time. It
can eliminate as much as 5 hours from the original method.
Summary
If your prefer the refined product I assure you that you will still have a
product that will enhance your skin and hair.
But if you want all of the
benefit that is available to you, the product to choose is Unrefined Raw Shea
Butter.
